Harvey Dunham’s Adirondack French Louie has become an Adirondack classic.
Louie Seymour was the prototype of all the Adirondack woodsman – a hunter-trapper- fisherman – lumberman and on a few days a year when he brought his furs into Newton’s Corners (now Speculator), a happy, drunk. Dunham provides an informal history of the southern Adirondacks and introduces us to the hearty souls who settled the region. The spirit of the wild, virgin Adirondacks are captured in a way that few other contemporary writers have.
